Happy new year!

Welcome, 2019! 2018 seemed to be a trying year for most, but guess what: you made it. We’re already a month into the last teen year of this century, and it’s been great so far. Here are a few things I’m excited for in 2019.

School

Okay, I know this one may sound a little crazy, but I’m genuinely excited about school. In the fall of 2019, I’ll be entering my senior year of college. Just the thought makes me nervous, but it also makes me excited for the opportunities that come ahead. Once you’re in your upper-level classes, the material is catered towards your major, so learning so much about speech pathology has been extremely exciting. Learning has always been a must for me, and I want to continue to have that same passion for years to come.

Entertainment

Us, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Lion King, maybe Rihanna, hopefully, Beyonce, and much more! Us seems like a thriller that’ll leave us on the edge of our seats and holding scissors with even more caution. “I Got 5 On It” will never sound the same again. The Marvel Universe is about to end an era with the Avengers: Endgame and Lion King will probably be one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. Rihanna has been hinting at a new album, but I wouldn’t be mad if she just puts out more Fenty beauty products. Lastly, Beyonce, we need another album that’s available on ALL streaming platforms. I’m sorry Spotify did you wrong, but they have Hulu and Showtime for the college students that really need entertainment. Music and movies always shape how the year goes, and if everything goes as planned, we’ll be having an extremely entertaining year.

Traveling

I’ve always enjoyed taking vacations. I’ve been blessed and fortunate to have parents that take me and my sister on vacation every year, and let us explore a new city for a few days. Hopefully this year I’ll be able to travel more and see what the world has to offer outside of the South. I definitely want to purchase a passport this year, even if I don’t leave the country. I’m still a tad bit antsy about traveling abroad (international laws are very different and the Amanda Knox story still freaks me out).

Consistency

Although I’ve always been consistent when it comes to academia, I want to make sure I’m remaining consistent in my other ventures. YouTube and IG are the main ways that I promote my new content, but I’m just not consistent enough. I really want to change that this year by posting on my personal and Seaux NEW Instagram accounts frequently and posting more than twice a month on YouTube. I’m going to create a content calendar that will help me to visualize when I need to post and how to schedule out my day. This will hold me accountable for my consistency. You should try it too!

Health

I don’t talk about it often, but I haven’t always been physically healthy. I’m a lot better now but I want to make an effort in 2019 to be more proactive for my health. I want to start working with a nutritionist that can help me have a better diet and I want to work out more often. My immune system is absolutely trash and if the weather changes I get sick almost immediately. I want this to change in 2019 so that I don’t have to worry about my health affecting my day-to-day plans.

Beauty

The beauty community has been taking the world by storm in the last few years with the evolution of YouTube and Instagram tutorials and it shows no signs of slowing anytime soon. Personally, I’ve never taken makeup seriously, but I want to start. I’ve always been a “special occasion” makeup wearer, but I want that to change in 2019. I’ve been buying new products and testing how they work on my skin and so far it’s been great! I have amazing friends that are makeup artists/enthusiasts that have given me awesome advice on what to wear and how to wear it.

Besides makeup, my hair is something that I’ll be watching closely this year. Last year I decided to straighten my hair for homecoming and it reached my bra strap! In the natural hair community, that is a huge deal and I want my hair to continue to grow. I’m not super open to trying new protective styles, but I do want to give wigs or a closure sew in a try. Having curls can get kind of redundant at times, so it’s always a good idea to try something new with your hair!

Entrepreneurship

I want to venture out into starting profitable businesses. I have started the groundwork for one in particular and I can’t wait to watch it flourish! I’ve heard one phrase in particular from a lot of entrepreneurs lately, and it’s “passive income.” I want to create something that would give me a passive income, but also something that makes me happy and gives me the drive to continue to work on it. I know that being an entrepreneur isn’t easy, but I’m willing to put in the work.

Spirituality

As a young Black Catholic, religion means a lot to me. Since my university has a Catholic church on campus, it is extremely easy for me to go to church every Sunday. However, I am challenging myself this semester to visit different Catholic churches in the city, just so I can observe how priests vary from church to church. So far, I’ve been to a mass that has an American Sign Language interpreter and a nighttime mass at a church that sings in Latin. I want to make sure that my relationship with God stays intact as I continue to grow up and I hope that I’m doing a good job at it! If you aren’t a super spiritual person, try to meditate and to process your thoughts through journaling. Spirituality can mean a lot of things to a lot of people, so make sure you find what works best for you.

Another chance

A new year means a new chance at enhancing or creating something that you’ve always wanted to do. Don’t let people discourage you this year; go with your gut.

2019 has already been really eye-opening for me. I want this year to be transformative in all aspects of my life, and I hope the same for you. Let me know what you’re excited about in 2019 on IG (@seauxnew) and Twitter (@seauxnew).
